Spring and Goths

The sun is showing more often in this north side of the world (Sweden) which means that the days are getting longer and warmer.

I must say, winter in Sweden is perfect for Gothic outfits. Well, almost, but let me explain.

You can wear heavy boots, black leg-warmers, black mitten, black scarves, hats, heavy coats with no problem at all.

I like the goth lolita style and during winter I personally believe it's easier to achieve that.

But now that it's getting warmer, well, many argue that they cannot dress the same way or that they suffer from the warmth and the black clothes.

Well, heh, trust me, I know! I'm greek, and I have been living in Athens for my first 30 years of my life ;)
During summer, it is NOT a nice place to be.

But did that stop me from wearing black clothes? No. Why? Well, in Athens, if it's 40 degrees it doesn't matter if you wear black or white. But it's a good idea if the fabrics are rather light.

And well, instead of black boots (doc martens, demonia, any type of the regular goth boots ) which granted, are not ideal for summertime so if you choose to wear them do it at your own risk, me and my friends (similar gothic style as me) were wearing black sandals and in general "open"shoes.

And there are many nice and cool gothic sandal designs that won't compromise your style.

And what about boys? Well, my advice for them would be to stick to simple black snickers. They match well with everything so why suffer with army boots? No need.

Soon, I will come back with more tips and more visual material for spring and summer outfits that are cool yet comfortable.

Let's destroy that myth that summer and goth outfits don't go well together, yeah?

Cheers

Ah, it has been a long day again. And I bet many of you have been longing for the weekend.

So finally, it's Friday night which means it's relaxing time, along with a drink and some cool music.

Have I showed you my cool black wine glasses? No?
Well, here they are:

I think today the evening calls for Front Line Assembly, don't you agree?

I will leave you to enjoy your weekend, doing whatever you wish to do, as long as you do it from your heart.

More gothic clothing tips for work

This is another post of the "what to wear at work if you are a goth" series.

Today I had a big meeting. As I have mentioned before, I work within the website development branch.

Of course in meetings I want to look nice, serious and professional. But I don’t want to lose my gothic style.

So this is what I decided to wear today, my lovely Hell bunny Busby dress.

I had a HM almost steampunk jacket on top, which is black and has similar buttons as the dress, a pair of thick leggings (it snowed again today damn it) and my winter boots.

And not to forget to mention my myblack eyeliner and my skull ring. I was ready to go!

So you see, you can dress in a goth-dark fashion and still look smart and professional!

Besides the whole outfit thing, I did have a long day and I'm exhausted now.

Even though I love wearing that dress because it's super flattering and I wish all girls were wearing skirts and dresses because that makes us super cute, I will put on my pjs now and go to bed.

Have a nice evening everyone.

Amphi Festival 2012 - Yay

I was just reading the line up for this year's Ampi Festival.

Wow, amongst others here are some of the bands:

ASSEMBLAGE 23
AND ONE
COMBICHRIST
FRONT LINE ASSEMBLY
PROJECT PITCHFORK
[:SITD:]

I mean,  just WOW.

I really really want to go this year. We agreed with my boyfriend that we are going so, yayy for that!

I hope that we'll stick to the plan and that the universe will not destroy our plans!

(And by universe I mean the tax agency.)

It would be so great. I love going to goth/ebm/industrial festivals. I feel so relaxed when I'm surrounded by people like me.

Nice drins, nice music, (usually) nice sunny weather, in short, perfection!

Good morning with some excellent EBM music for those that can't wake up!

Do you have a slow morning? Do you really want to wake up but no matter how much coffee you have drunk, your eyes are half open?

Put some EBM music on and feel the rythm. If that doesn't wake you up, well maybe you just go to bed.

5 Best Goth Clothing E-stores for Men

I happen to like a lot men with Goth outfits. Especially if that man is my boyfriend.

Well, personally I like more the military army EBM style.

I would like to point out is that most goth e-shops give priority to women.

It's not easy for my boyfriend to find clothes that he likes and I can understand the problem. But nice stores do exist, it only takes a little bit of searching.

So here I made small list for you with some nice Gothic stores that have great clothes for men.

Enjoy

Mame Clothing. It's an Australian store but they offer international shipping and I have to say I'm impressed, they have exactly the type of shirts that my boyfriend likes, which is more of the EBM, army shirt style.

Infectious Threads. God, I love that store. It's actually one of the first Goth e-shops that I've ever bought stuff from. They have a great variety of clothes in the Men's section. From punk to goth to ebm to medieval to rock. And the best customer support ever!

The Black Angel. All times classic. Do I need to say more? Great collection of button down shirts.

Rivithead. Another great store with a big variety of EBM and Goth shirts and also pants, accessories, and many more.

Slash n Burn. Well I just discovered this one and it does look pretty cool. Give it a shot.

Happy shopping guys!

Gothic style tips: accessories

How do you spice up a dull, boring day at the office, style-wise?

Well the answer is: Accessories.

Many jobs have a dress code, and well, even if there is not an official dress code, many Goths have to dress down at work.

It’s not always the case that you might have an open minded boss, or co-workers for that matter, so unfortunately, your wardrobe might have to be compromised.

Truth be told, sometimes even myself, whenever I get ready for a first-time meeting with a customer, I dress down a bit. I try and look a bit more serious and professional. And it’s ok.

But that doesn’t mean you have to completely give up your style. So what do you do?

Same thing as I do. Keep your Goth accessories on.

I might wear a simple pair of jeans and a black shirt along with a black cardigan (yes well, all of my clothes are black) but I do keep my favourite skulls ring on, and I paint my nails black.

Here you can see some of my Goth accessories.

As you see, I have a pair of small skull earrings, a skull ring, a ring with a Diablo-like figure, a black ring which was gift from a girl at work, a necklace made from small black beads and of course, my black nail polish.

And that’s only a few of them. There so many choices of goth accessories out there that can transform an outfit completely.

As my boyfriend keeps telling me “ it’s all in the details”. And no, he is not talking about fashion, he has no clue, but he uses that expression a lot, for various subjects.

How about you? Do you manage to keep your gothic style intact at work, or do you have to compromise a bit?

Gothic lifestyle of a 30something working girl

So, let me tell you my little story.

I’m 33 years old, and I’m still a goth.

I’m not a teenager that just things it's cool, or going through a rebellious phase.

There is nothing wrong with the teenagers that thing it is cool, because goth, ebm, industrial music it IS cool, and the younger you discover it the better.

However, many when they reach their late 20s are not listening to the music anymore and are enhancing their wardrobe with more colours. Still, nothing wrong with that.

But me, I’m getting “darker” actually as years go by. Actually I used to wear more colour when I was younger, but now there is nothing but black clothes in my closet.

Ok, ok, I have a white and dark red shirt for when I have to go to a meeting. Not that I can’t wear black on black, but sometimes I feel a bit “Covenant”, if you know what I mean.

So, in this personal note, I just want to point out, that even though I'm an adult into my early 30s, I still haven't given up my goth attitude (well more EBM actually). And I get so excited when I go to goth concerts and festivals and see many people like me that are in my age.
I go to work – I work with web development and SEO – and yes sometimes I get to dress up a bit more “professional” when I have meetings with clients, but it's always a “dark” influenced outfit and many of my accessories (earrings, bracelets) have to do with the Goth style.

Of course, I don’t wear heavy makeup or don’t put on fishnet tights; neither do I wear my big EBM boots. But I do wear some simpler Gothic dresses that are cute and flattering.

I’m going to make a simple Polyvore set, gothic style yet safe for work, just to give you a few suggestions.
(Polyvore is so cool!! )

I'm rather new there and I haven't found any real goth brands yet, but I'll do my best with any black clothes I find.

Old school EBM band

One of the new-ish bands that I really really like, is SPARK!

If you like pure old school EBM, you should listen to them. They are from Sweden and their lyrics are in swedish, so that might be a problem for non-swedes, but the music will reward you.

I can listen to their music and say that "I'm doing my homework". (Still learning the language, heh)

Hm... a 33 year old with a homework.. that's sounds weird.

Anyway, enjoy the music!

A nice accessory can instantly change the whole appearence of a person.

I like accessories and it's better to invest in them instead of constantly buying new clothes.

It can keep you in budget since one accessory can be matched with many many different clothes, and look unique each time.

So, you like EBM (or Gothic) music and you just want to look cool but without dressing up too much.

For you, accessories are the way to go.

Even if you wear a simple black T-shirt and a pair of black jeans, a nice belt, can make your outfit go one step higher.

For example, a nice and simple suggestion is to wear a belt like this:

http://www.the-black-angel.com/gothic-belts/234-leather-stylex.html

Or even this:

http://www.rivithead.com/catalog/demon-belt-dcb1.html

A pair of jeans and a black T-shirt will instantly transform into an awesome goth outfit.
It's all in the details!

Besides belts, men can easily wear cuffs to enhance their outfit.

They do give a sense of awesomeness and I admit it, I like men with cuffs, and I'm not the only one.

Take a look at these (Shanalogic is amongst my favourite stores by the way).

http://www.shanalogic.com/guys/jewelry/thin-leather-wrap-cuff.html

Hmm, that's a nice gift idea for my boyfriend actually.

As you see, with just a couple of accessories, you can enhance your outfit without much trouble.

There are so many different belt designs and cuffs. Just find the one that you like best and use them to show how old school you really are.

Because old school EBMers, don't need fancy clothes. Only toughness, a pair of jeans, a t-shirt and boots!

And trust me, with a few cool accessories you will look even cooler.

Ps. I'm not affiliated with any of the above stores. I only post products that I think are nice and worth sharing.

Men's Clothing Outfit Tips for the Goth-EBM scene

Men in the EBM scene can be very stylish. I personally love the military/strict outfits.

So what are some cool tips for outfits for going to your favourite club, or even on a casual evening having drinks with friends?

As I have said in a previous post, I go by the Less Is More way of thinking.

Men can look so cool with a just a T-shirt, a nice black jacket, a pair of black jeans or black military pants and black boots, as long as they are selected carefully.

So here are some suggestions.

EBM or Alternative T-shirts

Disclaimer: This T-shirts are from the GothicFashion shop, but by no means am I asking you or to purchase this. This is only a hobby of mine and I like to create cool designs that people might like and would want to wear. I know my fiance does! :)

Moving on!

Here I made  mini compilation of some black T-shirts, from Polyvore.com. Who doesn't like Ramones!!!
Men's black rock T-shirts

T shirt
$20 - amazon.com

J. Steger Krieger T-Shirt
$25 - buckle.com

As you see, there is no way I could skip Ramones, even if they are Punk, because they are simply the coolest.

My boyfriend is a hardcore EBM-er, but he loves his RAMONES and I love it when he wears his Black biker leather jacket and his RAMONES t-shirt. So cool!
Pants
Black jeans is always a good option but I do think  goth/ EBM/ Steampunk style pants are an even better option.

For example:

Source: OdiumClothing.se
http://www.odiumclothing.net/index.asp?main=/generated/article_2081_0_0_0_1.asp&extra=0-0

But, to be honest, I think men have it rather easy since ANY type of black pants, whether that is plain black jeans, or military pants, or something like the above trousers, will work just fine.

And what about some boots, eh?
Boots

Dr. Martens boots

Dr. Martens boots (see more dr martens boots)

What else is there to say?

This is the simplest solution and the coolest!

In general, it's not hard to dress nicely, all you need is to do is get some basic garments and shoes that can be easily combined with each other.

Dr. Martens boots can go perfectly well with anything. I mean even if you you have to dress down a bit for work, you can wear these boots with a simple pair of jeans and a T-shirt, and still look cool, right?

T-shirts can mix and match with anything, so it's a good idea to invest in two-three designs that you can wear in concerts or clubs, or when you go for a beer.

Coming up, goth accessories for men that can make a difference (belt buckles etc, armbands etc).

Stay tuned.
